The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are providing $ 110 mln to support sustainable energy supply in Tajikistan, according to a press release from the EBRD.

The funds will be used to improve the efficient operation of distribution networks in the republic.

The assistance package consists of an EBRD loan of up to $ 25 mln and an ADB grant of $ 85 mln.

The assistance is designed for the introduction of advanced electricity metering systems and the improvement of power grids in seven cities of the republic; Dushanbe, Buston, Dangara, Konibodom, Isfara, Istaravshan and Penjikent.

It is expected that the implementation of the project will reduce the volume of losses in power grids and reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

The EBRD has invested €765 million to implement 140 projects in the Tajik economy.

Since 1998, the ADB has provided the republic with about $ 2.2 bln, including $ 1.6 bln in grants.
