Energy Ministers of Russia and Belarus discussed cooperation within the framework of the Union State

Minister of Energy of Russia Nikolai Shulginov and Minister of Energy of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Karankevich held a working meeting in Moscow.

The main topic of discussion was the interaction between Russia and Belarus within the framework of the formation of common markets of the Union State with an emphasis on the electric power sector. At present, the Union program for the formation of a unified electricity market has been signed and approved by the governments of both countries, Nikolai Shulginov noted.

“In accordance with the program, the unified electricity market of the Union State will start operating from January 1, 2024 through trade between authorized organizations, and from January 1, 2027, a transition to deeper integration in the electricity sector is envisaged,” added the head of the Russian Ministry of Energy.

During the meeting, general issues of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector were not ignored either. The parties emphasized the consistent development and high potential of bilateral cooperation between countries in all areas.
