Kyrgyzstan reached an agreement to receive supplies of 900 million kWh of electricity from Kazakhstan from March to November 2021

The government instructed the Ministry of Energy and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic and the National Energy Holding Company OJSC to ensure the reception of electricity as commodity barter from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan in the period from March to November 2021, in the amount of up to 900 million kWh according to an uneven daily schedule.

The corresponding decree was signed on March 19, 2021 by Prime Minister Ulukbek Maripov

Electricity is supplied at a conventional price of USD 0.0000001 per 1 kWh, with subsequent guaranteed return of electricity in an equivalent amount of up to 900 million kWh from the Kyrgyz Republic to the Republic of Kazakhstan, on an annual basis, from June to August 2021 - 2023, in the amount of no more than 300 million kWh per year, at a conditional price of USD 0.0000001 per 1 kWh, on the terms of payment by the operator of the Kazakh side of the cost of the services provided by the operator of the Kyrgyz side for the transmission of electrical energy through the national power grids.

This is done in order to ensure energy security, to prevent the release of the Toktogul reservoir to a critical level, the document says.
