Azerbaijan increased electricity production by 2.8% in January-June 2023
In particular, electricity generation in Azerbaijan in the first half of this year amounted to 13.907 billion kWh, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov wrote on his Twitter page.
At the same time, as the minister noted, in the reporting period of 2023, the export of electricity from Azerbaijan amounted to 1.265 billion kWh, while imports amounted to 137.5 million kWh.
Meanwhile, the country generated more than 28.988 billion kWh of electricity in 2022, up 4% year on year. Export accounted for more than 3 billion kWh of electricity, while imports amounted to 137.1 million kWh.
In January - June 2023, the production of electricity from renewable energy sources (RES), including hydroelectric power plants, exceeded 1.081 billion kWh.
During the reporting period, HPPs generated 891 million kWh, wind farms - 31.7 million kWh, solar power plants - 32.3 million kWh, and at the solid waste incineration plant (MSW) - 126.8 million kWh.
The minister noted that the share of the renewable energy sector in the total electricity production in Azerbaijan for the reporting period amounted to 8%.
