Electricity production in Russia in August 2023 amounted to 90.6 billion kWh, which is 1.9% higher than in August 2022 and 2.9% higher than in July 2023. This is stated in the materials of Rosstat.

In particular, Russian thermal power plants in August reduced production by 0.3% in annual terms, but increased it by 6.1% compared to July, to 54.6 billion kWh, remaining the main supplier of electricity to the country’s unified energy system with shares about 63.5% of total production. At the same time, nuclear power plants increased production by 4.5% compared to August 2022, to 17.6 billion kWh, and hydroelectric power generation increased by 8.1%, to 17.8 billion kWh.

Renewable energy generation facilities produced 648 million kWh of electricity in August (a decrease of 23.2% in annual terms).

In January - August 2023, the total electricity production in the Russian Federation amounted to 768 billion kWh, which is 0.4% higher than the figure for the same period in 2022. Thus, production at thermal power plants increased by 2.8%, to 488 billion kWh, but at nuclear power plants and hydroelectric power plants it decreased by 3% and 3.9%, to 142 billion and 133 billion kWh, respectively. Generation at renewable energy facilities over eight months decreased by 10.5%, to 5.2 billion kWh.
