In Kyrgyzstan, from May 1, 2023, the price of electricity for the population of the country will increase by 23 tyiyn and will amount to 1 som. The corresponding resolution was signed by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov.
According to the decision, when electricity consumption exceeds 700 kWh, the tariff will remain at the same level - 2.16 som/kWh.
The tariff for needy families and citizens will also remain at the same level and will amount to 50 tyiyn per 1 kWh.
The existing tariff for the population without power limitation (no limit) has been reduced to 3.28 som/kWh instead of 5.04 som/kWh.
The measure related to the increase in tariffs is necessary to ensure the energy security of the country, uninterrupted power supply to the population in the context of a dynamic growth in consumption.
It is important to note that among the CIS countries and many countries in the world, the electricity tariff in Kyrgyzstan is one of the lowest. Having rich water and energy resources, the country is currently experiencing difficulties associated with the dynamic growth of domestic electricity consumption, which makes it necessary to import it from other countries.
The introduced changes in the tariff policy are a necessary measure. This will provide an opportunity to upgrade worn-out power equipment left over from Soviet times. Despite the reconstruction and modernization of existing thermal and hydroelectric power plants, the wear and tear of power equipment is currently more than 80%.
Funds received because of the tariff increase will be used to upgrade obsolete equipment. This, in turn, will prevent possible accidents at power facilities and system outages.
