In Tajikistan, from January 1, the price of electricity will increase by 16%
Electricity tariffs from January 1 of the coming year will increase by 16% for all categories of consumers, including the population, said Jomi Umarov, Advisor to the General Director of Electric Distribution Networks OJSC.
According to him, the corresponding resolution, number 546, was adopted by the government of the country on November 29 of this year.
According to Umarov, from the beginning of the new year, household consumers will pay 30.75 dirams (2.8 cents) for each kilowatt-hour instead of the current 26.51 dirams (2.4 cents).
Until 2016, electricity tariffs were increased only in even-numbered years, and after that - on an annual basis. The exception was 2020 and 2021, when the government refrained from these activities due to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The last time tariffs for all categories of consumers, except the Tajik Aluminum Company, were increased was from October 1, 2022.
However, from January 1, 2023, the tariff for TALCO was nevertheless increased to 15.57 dirams (all year round).
Before this, this company paid an average of 9.5 dirams for each kilowatt-hour (in the summer from May 1 to September 30 - 7.20 dirams, and from October 1 to April 30 - 11.80 dirams).
Other categories currently pay for electricity at the following tariffs:
- for consumers of the public sector, public utilities and sports complexes - 26.51 dirams.
- for water supply pumps and mechanical irrigation pumping stations, repair and production bases of the Land Reclamation and Irrigation Agency from April 1 to September 30 - 9.2 dirams, and from October 1 to March 31 - 26.51 dirams;
