Kyrgyzstan expects until 2030 to increase the capacity of its HPPs to 6 GW

The Government of Kyrgyzstan plans to increase operative  hydropower potential of the republic to 6 GW. This was announced on Friday in Bishkek during the forum “Transformation of the Energy Sector of the Kyrgyz Republic” by Akylbek Zhaparov - head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic.

"About 70% of the hydropower potential of our country remain unused. In order to develop this potential, priority projects for commissioning  of hydropower capacity of more than 6 GW until 2030 are defined," he said.

According to him, as part of the implementation of these plans, the construction of a large hydropower plant "Kambar-Ata-1" will begin in the near future, which will increase the volume of HPP "Kambar-Ata-2" reservoirs to 6 billion cubic meters, what, in turn, will lead to an increase in the electricity production of these plants.
