Garegin Baghramyan, chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC), said in parliament on Monday that liberalization of the Armenian electricity market is postponed due to coronavirus.

"We have begun a large-scale process of market liberalization. There is a corresponding government program. According to the schedule, it is planned that its implementation will begin in 2021, but there will be delays due to the coronavirus pandemic," he said.

Mr. Bagharmian suggested that a finally liberalized market would probably be formed by January 2022.

In addition, he said that as part of these activities, the government will receive a gift from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) - $ 1.5 million worth of software.

At the same time, the head of PSRC also said that within the framework of the EAEU, a program has been approved to create a single electricity market, according to which work in this direction should be completed in 2022.
