Representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Energy of Russia via video conference discussed draft memorandum on cooperation, the Russian-language newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan” reports.

"The preparation of the draft Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the field of energy" became the main topic of the online meeting held at the Turkmenistan's Ministry of Energy, the publication notes.

During the talks, the Turkmen side emphasized that the comprehensive strengthening and diversification of economic ties with Russia, which is one of Turkmenistan’s strategic partners, is among the key areas of foreign policy led by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

It was also noted that Turkmenistan and Russia have good prospects for cooperation in the implementation of electricity transit and export projects.

“In particular, this concerns the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan high-voltage power transmission line, the interfacing of the Central Asian electric power system, the formation by 2025 of the common electricity market of the Eurasian Economic Union and so on,” writes “Neutral Turkmenistan”.

Turkmenistan is exporting electricity to Afghanistan and is considering exporting electricity to Tajikistan, Pakistan and Armenia.
