Mirziyoyev proposed establishing a council of energy ministers within the ECO

Uzbekistan advocates the harmonization of national energy strategies of the countries participating in the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and proposes to establish a council of energy ministers. This was stated by the President of the Republic Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the ECO summit in Tashkent.

According to him, to guarantee the energy security of the ECO countries, it is necessary to harmonize national energy strategies, develop interregional energy transmission networks and introduce “green” energy. “In order to discuss in detail issues of cooperation and work on a systematic basis, we propose to establish a separate council of energy ministers within the Organization,” he said.

According to him, Uzbekistan is ready for an open dialogue and exchange of experience in the energy sector with all ECO member states.

The 16th ECO summit took place on November 8-9 in Tashkent, with the participation of the presidents and prime ministers of nine ECO countries (Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan). Representatives of Afghanistan, also a member of the organization, were not invited to the summit because the current government in Kabul is not recognized by the international community.
