Over 50 renewable energy projects to be launched in Kazakhstan by 2025

There are 136 renewable energy sources in operation in Kazakhstan.

“In recent years, significant steps have been taken to improve the investment climate in the RES sector, taking into account world practices, as well as through the active implementation of state policy aimed at taking systemic measures for the development of RES. Currently, there are 136 renewable energy facilities with an installed capacity of 2065 MW in the republic: 40 wind power plants with a capacity of 684 MW; 51 solar power plants with a capacity of 1093 MW; 40 hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of 280 MW; 5 bioelectric power plants with a capacity of 8 MW,” said Energy Minister Bolat Akchulakov in his response to a deputy’s request.

According to him, 19 facilities with a total capacity of 393 MW were put into operation in 2021.

“According to the results of the 1st quarter of 2022, the volume of electricity generated by renewable energy facilities amounted to 933.07 million kWh. or 3.03% of the total electricity production, representing a 14.6% increase compared to the same period in 2021. Until 2025, it is planned to commission 53 renewable energy projects with a capacity of 1074 MW - 19 hydroelectric power plants, 23 wind and 7 solar stations,” the minister added.
