In accordance with the agreement signed by the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan with the company of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia «ACWA Power”, six wind measuring met masts have been installed in the territories where a wind power plant with a capacity of 240 MW will be built, “Trend” news agency reports referring to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan.

According to the report, three met masts have been installed in the territories of Absheron and Khizi regions. These met masts will measure the characteristics of wind flow for 9-12 months, the results of which will determine the optimal location of the turbines.

"It is planned to build 40 wind turbines with a capacity of 6 MW each near the villages of Absheron and Khizi districts of Perikyushkul and Sitalchay. It is planned to install 17 wind turbines with  total capacity of 102 MW at the wind farm in Perikyushkul and another 23 - with total capacity of 138 MW - in the mountainous area near the village of Sitalchay of Khizinsky district.

Topographic work and engineering and geological surveys in the territories designated for wind power plants are completed. At the same time, research related to the assessment of the environment and social impacts continues”, the message says.

According to the Ministry of Energy, a solar power plant with a capacity of 200 MW will also be built in the territories of Garadagh and Absheron regions. Preparations are under way to conduct surveys and studies on environmental and social impact in the project areas.

On December 5, 2019, the President of Azerbaijan signed a decree "On measures to implement pilot projects in the field of renewable energy sources." On January 9, 2020, agreements were signed between the Ministry of Energy and companies “ACWA Power” of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and “Masdar” of the United Arab Emirates to implement pilot projects on renewable energy.
