A new high-voltage power transmission line Akhal-Balkan will soon be commissioned in Turkmenistan. Deputy Prime Minister Charymyrat Purchekov reported on the ongoing preparations for commissioning to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.

The Akhal-Balkan power transmission line is the first stage of a project to create a ring power system in the country. Its length is 450 kilometers

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, with the commissioning of a new high-voltage power transmission line, not only will the reliability of power supply to domestic consumers increase, but technical measures will also be introduced to increase the volume of electricity export.

Having listened to the report, the head of Turkmenistan noted the importance of the ongoing consistent work on the steady increase in the potential of the domestic electric power industry, which is assigned a significant role in strengthening the foundations of the national economy.

"The upcoming commissioning of a new high-voltage power transmission line Akhal-Balkan marks the implementation of the first stage of a grandiose project", Berdymukhamedov stressed.

In his opinion, the measures taken will improve the quality of energy supply to cities and villages, will serve to solve the important tasks of social and economic development, as well as expand the country's export opportunities.

The intention to create a ring power system in the country and the Center for the repair and maintenance of power equipment became known in February 2018. Then it was reported that the implementation of this project, which was entrusted to the consortium of companies Calik Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (Turkey) and Calik Enerji Swiss AG (Switzerland), will completely renew the power supply system and provide the regions with uninterrupted electricity supply. In 2020, Turkmenenergo State Corporation signed contracts with Calik Enerji Sanayi for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of telemechanics, communications and SCADA systems for high-voltage power lines and Akhal-Balkan and Balkan-Dashoguz plants.
