Tajikistan plans to export more than 3 billion kWh of electricity to neighboring countries this year.

According to the energy companies of the Republic of Tajikistan, there is an agreement with Afghanistan and Uzbekistan on the volume of electricity supplies for the current year. However, everything depends on the inflow of water on the Vakhsh River, where the main generating power facilities of the country are located.

“If resources are available, it is possible to export over 3 billion kWh of electricity to neighboring countries. It is planned to supply a significant amount of electricity in the summer season. It is planned to export electricity to Uzbekistan in the amount of 1.5 billion kWh. Also, the volumes of supplies will increase for Afghanistan”, the agencies noted.

Last year, a total of 1 billion 536.8 million kWh of electricity was exported for more than $ 55.4 million. This indicator  is almost 1.4 billion kWh of electricity less than in 2019.

The energy sector notes that the cost of each kWh of energy for Afghanistan last year was 4.5 US cents. This year it will increase by 3%. However, the cost of the export price of electricity for Uzbekistan has not been disclosed. Earlier it was reported that in previous years, electricity was supplied to Uzbekistan at a price of 2 US cents per kWh.
