Tajikistan exported about 2.5 billion kWh of electricity

Over 2.4 billion kWh of electricity was exported by Tajikistan last year. This is 911.6 million kWh more than in 2020.

According to the country's Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, a total of 2 billion 439.2 million kWh was exported. This volume of electricity is sold to two neighboring countries.

The main importer of Tajik electricity is Afghanistan, where 1 billion 213.1 million kWh were supplied in 2021. The amount of electricity sales to Afghanistan amounted to 612.2 million somoni ($54.1 million).

1 billion 145.7 million kWh worth 259.4 million somoni (about $23 million) were exported to neighboring Uzbekistan.

In 2021, electricity generation in the country reached 20 billion 624.6 million kWh, which is 853.8 million kWh or 4.3% more than a year earlier. Thermal energy production in 2021 amounted to 1 million 208.6 thousand Gcal, which is 46.7 thousand Gcal or 4% more than in 2020.
