The EEC approved measures to develop promising areas of cooperation between the EAEU states in the field of hydrogen energy
The Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission approved the report “On the results of the analysis on the prospects for the development of hydrogen energy in the Eurasian Economic Union” and adopted a recommendation aimed at developing cooperation between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union in this area. The documents have been prepared in order to implement the Main Directions for Industrial Cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union until 2025.
The report contains information on a comprehensive analysis of the main technologies for the production, transportation, storage and use of hydrogen; review of world experience in the field of hydrogen energy on the example of individual countries, trends in the development of hydrogen energy in the EAEU states.
Particular attention in the document is paid to the analysis of potential opportunities and constraints for the development of hydrogen energy, relevant projects in the countries of the Union. Also, the main points and goals of development for each member state are fixed, taking into account the degree of formation of the regulatory and legal framework of the industry, the resources and potential of the country, goals are defined, directions for further development of the industry are proposed.
“In order to promote hydrogen energy in the Union, it is necessary to pay special attention to promoting scientific and technical cooperation between our countries, creating the latest developments, prototypes of components and finished products in three areas. These are hydrogen production, transportation, storage and use of hydrogen (in transport, in industrial production),” said Artak Kamalyan, Minister for Industry and Agro-Industrial Complex of the EEC.
The recommendation identifies promising areas for the development of scientific and technical cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy in the EAEU, such as the production of low-carbon hydrogen by the method of water electrolysis through the use of electric energy from nuclear power plants, small hydropower plants and renewable energy sources; production of low-carbon hydrogen by various methods from hydrocarbons; compression, liquefaction, storage and transportation of hydrogen; hydrogen transport and the infrastructure necessary for its application; materials for solid oxide electrolyzers and fuel cells, as well as for the application of promising hydrogen storage technologies.
The implementation of the recommendation will contribute to the development of cooperation between the Union States in the field of hydrogen energy, scientific and technical cooperation, the exchange of experience of the Member States on key hydrogen technologies and projects, the promotion of joint scientific research and the development of technologies by the organizations of the five countries in promising areas of cooperation in the mentioned sphere.
“The adoption of the recommendation is the first step in establishing cooperative interaction between the EAEU member states in the field of hydrogen energy,” Artak Kamalyan emphasized.
