On April 11, the Ministry of Energy submitted for public discussion amendments to the constitutional law “On the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic”.

In the current version, the som is the only legal tender throughout the country. At the same time, when delivering exported and imported goods and services, the currency of payment is determined by agreement of the parties.

At the initiative of the Ministry of Energy, the tariff for electricity generated by installations using renewable energy sources should be pegged to the foreign exchange rate.

The need to link the tariff to the foreign exchange rate was explained in the ministry by the interest of international companies in the construction of power plants based on renewable energy sources.

Today, the tariff for renewable energy is 4.42 soms per 1 kWh during a 15-year grace period.
