The Republic of Belarus approved five-year state energy saving program

The State Program "Energy Saving" for 2021-2025 was approved by the Decree of the Council of Ministers dated February 24, 2021 No. 103, the press service of the Government of the Republic of Belarus reported.

The document is aimed at increasing the efficiency of the national economy production sector and strengthening the country's energy security.

The strategic tasks in the field of energy saving include:

Reducing the dependence of Belarus on imported energy resources due to the maximum possible involvement of its own fuel and energy resources (FER) in the country's fuel and energy balance, including renewable energy sources (RES);

Curbing the growth of gross consumption of fuel and energy resources in the country's economic development and bringing the energy intensity of Belarus' GDP closer to the world average value of this indicator in terms of purchasing power parity.

The program consists of two subprograms: "Improving energy efficiency" and   "Expanding the use of local fuel and energy resources, including renewable energy sources".

As part of the program, it is planned to carry out activities, including:

  • Introduction of modern energy efficient technologies, energy-saving equipment, devices and materials;
  • Improving the efficiency of power generating facilities;
  • Construction, reconstruction, modernization of energy sources using technological equipment using local fuel and energy resources, including renewable energy sources.

The resolution comes into force after its official publication and extends its effect to relations that arose from January 1, 2021.
