On July 14, 2022, the 60th meeting of the CIS Electric Power Council was held in the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the participation of representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.

Kazakhstan was represented at the council by Vice Minister of Energy Zhandos Nurmaganbetov, representatives of NWF Samruk-Kazyna JSC, Samruk-Energo JSC and system operator KEGOC JSC.

During the meeting, topical issues of developing a sustainable, low-carbon electric power industry, cooperation between the CIS countries in the field of renewable energy, taking into account the maintenance of national and regional energy security, were discussed, and a number of documents submitted by the Coordinating Council under the CIS Electric Power Council were considered.

At the meeting, Zhandos Nurmaganbetov made a report on the development of the electric power industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan, in which he noted the importance of the transition to low-carbon development with subsequent transformation into a carbon-free economy and spoke about ongoing activities aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by Kazakhstan by 2060.

The Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan also spoke about the ongoing work aimed at creating conditions for the digitalization of the electric power industry.

In particular, this year a draft of the Smart Grid Concept until 2030 was developed, where the general directions for the digitalization of the industry were determined.
