The seventh high-voltage power transmission line connecting BelNPP with the power system was put into operation
On October 3, 2020, the program for the commissioning of the 330 kV overhead high-voltage transmission line "Belarusian NPP - Ross" (VL-330) was successfully completed. This line with a length of 250 kilometers connected the HV switchgear of the Belarusian NPP with the 330 kV Ross substation, ensuring later on the transmission of electricity from the Belarusian NPP to the western part of the republic's power system.
The equipment of the switchgear at the Belarusian NPP, connected with this power line, and the equipment of the 330 kV overhead line itself are now in the comprehensive testing mode. Switching on the high-voltage line "Belarusian NPP - Ross" will ensure optimal power system modes both before and after the commissioning of the power generating units of the Belarusian NPP.
As previously reported, 6 overhead power transmission lines were turned on earlier, providing communication of the Belarusian NPP with power facilities (330 kV substations) of the backbone network of Belarus.
Based on the design studies and fundamental research, it was determined that the connection of the Belarusian NPP with the power system should be carried out through seven high-voltage transmission lines with a voltage of 330 kV:
• "Belarusian NPP - Smorgon",
• "Belarusian NPP - Minsk-Severnaya",
• "Belarusian NPP - Postavy No. 1",
• "Belarusian NPP - Postavy No. 2",
• "Belarusian NPP - Molodechno",
• "Belarusian NPP - Ross",
• "Belarusian NPP - Stolbtsy".
All these lines were built as part of the Belarusian NPP power delivery project to the power system (2018 - completion of construction).
These power lines are provided with reliable protection against various types of short circuits. All high-voltage lines outgoing from the buses of the Belarusian NPP 330 kV switchgear are equipped with three protective relay sets on each side. Each of the sets includes a family of special current protections with the organization of control commands transmission both through high-frequency channels (over power lines) and over fiber-optic communication channels (FOCL)..
In the process of implementing programs for turning on high-voltage power lines connecting the Belarusian NPP with the power system, the dispatching personnel, together with experts from the regime services, relay protection and other services, solved complex tasks, including also non-standard ones. Temporary power lines were constructed, characteristics and settings of relay protection were recalculated to ensure reliable operation of the power system under conditions of permanent changes. All this was done in order to maintain the quality standards of power supply to consumers while keeping the optimal operating modes of the power system.
At the same time, the most important task for all personnel was to put new facilities into operation, in no way disrupting the power supply to consumers.
