Turkmenistan initiated the development of two new UN strategies
Turkmenistan proposed to develop a UN strategy aimed at implementing measures for the development of low-carbon energy, as well as to create, under the auspices of the UN, an international "road map" for the development of hydrogen as one of the priority areas in the energy sector.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov put forward such a proposal during a round table on the topic "Extractive industries as an engine of sustainable development" held in an online format by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
It was noted that Turkmenistan is ready to start discussing ways and criteria for their implementation in the near future.
Currently, in Turkmenistan, with the support of the United Nations Environment Program and the United Nations Development Program, the Fourth National Communication (NC4) on climate change and the First Biennial Communication are being developed. According to the plan, both documents will be submitted to the UN Secretariat in early 2023.
It should be noted that the energy sector is intensively developing in Turkmenistan. Thus, according to the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, the plan for products manufacture, work done and services provided was exceeded by 19.7% in January-April 2021, with a growth rate of 117.9%.
During the reporting period, the plan for the production of electricity and its export was exceeded by 5.8% and 44.3%, respectively. The growth rates of these indicators were 109.9% and 145.3%.
