Turkmenistan plans to create an infrastructure for the production, storage and transportation of hydrogen energy. This was announced at a government meeting.

Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov reported to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the work to develop cooperation with international organizations in the field of hydrogen energy.

Meredov informed that in recent years the pace of work on the transition to low-carbon energy and hydrogen fuel has been accelerating in the world, which in the future will lead to a change in the demand structure of energy carriers. In this regard, a draft "Roadmap for the development of international cooperation of Turkmenistan in the field of hydrogen energy for 2022-2023" was drawn up.

Turkmenistan plans to produce, store and transport hydrogen energy by attracting large investments to the industry. To this end, it is proposed to create in Turkmenistan an Interdepartmental Working Group on the development of hydrogen energy.

To achieve these goals, it is proposed to cooperate with international organizations, including the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Energy Charter, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other organizations.

To train qualified specialists, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed to create a Hydrogen Energy Center at the International University of Oil and Gas named after Yagshygeldi Kakaev, as well as to establish scientific contacts with foreign partners.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov generally approved the proposals and stressed that Turkmenistan would continue to take consistent steps to stimulate fruitful international cooperation in the field of low-carbon, and in particular, hydrogen energy. The Deputy Prime Minister was instructed to continue the relevant work in this direction.
