Uzbekistan actively interacts with the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in all areas, including in addressing energy security issues. This was stated by the First Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Azim Akhmedkhodjaev during the SCO Energy Forum held in Astana.

“The SCO is undoubtedly one of the most important platforms aimed at analyzing and resolving global and regional issues in all areas, including energy security issues,” he said.

According to him, Uzbekistan has established close cooperation with China in this area. He especially emphasized that Russia is one of the main partners and the largest investor in the energy sector of the republic.

The First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Energy added that Uzbek specialists, together with colleagues from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, are currently exploring the possibility of building several hydroelectric power plantss on the territory of these republics.

“These projects are designed to solve not only energy supply issues, but also the issue of ensuring water balance, which is especially significant for the region,” explained A. Akhmedkhodjaev. “The ever-increasing demand for energy on the one hand and climate change on the other hand require combining our efforts in finding the most appropriate ways to provide energy.”
