Uzbekistan will continue to sell electricity to Afghanistan
Uzbekistan and Afghanistan will continue cooperation in the field of electricity supplies. The parties entered into a contract providing for the extension of the current agreement for the supply of electricity until 2024. Information about this was disseminated by the Afghan energy company DABS.
DABS President Mohammad Hanif Hamza and Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Milliy Elektro Tarmoklari Dadajon Isakulov signed a corresponding document in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent. This step confirmed the strategic partnership of the two countries in the field of energy.
During the negotiations, the Afghan side expressed concern about infrastructural difficulties and also emphasized the need to increase the volume of electricity supplies. This is especially true in the context of the current electricity shortages facing both businesses and government agencies in Afghanistan.
In response to these requests, the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, emphasized the country’s readiness for additional supplies of electricity and expressed its readiness to discuss possible measures to solve infrastructure problems. In addition, he expressed Uzbekistan’s interest in purchasing coal and oil from Afghanistan, which could contribute to the diversified development of cooperation in the energy sector.
Thus, the signing of a contract for the supply of electricity for 2024 was an important step in the development of energy cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, opening up new prospects for both countries. Strategic partnership in this area not only helps strengthen economic ties, but also provides opportunities for joint development of energy projects.
